This is my first blog, so perhaps it's fitting that the subject should be the publication of my new book, Life in the Victorian Hospital.  The book has just been published and I have very mixed feelings about it for two reasons: firstly, it's more ambitious in scope than my other books because it covers England, Wales and Scotland; secondly, I completed it back in November last year so I've forgotten much of what's in it!

 

Part of me doesn't want anyone to read it, the other part wants it to be a resounding success.  So I wait with a mixture of nervousness, fear and anticipation.  Will the critics like it?  Will anyone buy it?  More importantly, will anyone read it?  Or is it destined for the great remainder warehouse in the sky?  Only time will tell.
